Tour Overview
Step back in time on this full-day tour for fans of The Sound of Music. Start the day at 10am when your private tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Salzburg.
Begin with a sightseeing trip of Salzburg, which includes stops at Leopoldskron Palace and Hellbrunn Palace. Mirabell Gardens is a Sound of Music city attraction. Take in the panoramic picture of the lake, with Leopoldskron Castle and the fortress in the background. Leopoldskron served as the von Trapp family’s home in The Sound of Music. The boat scene with Maria and the children was also shot on location.
The next visit is Hellbrunn Palace, where the Sound of Music Gazebo can be found today – 16 going 17.
Your journey then takes you on a scenic route to the Obersalzberg region. During a visit to Obersalzberg and the Berghof ruins, you will dive deeper into the history of the region. The Berghof, located at 3,000 ft above sea level, was Hitler’s former mountain residence on Obersalzberg.
From Obersalzberg you can reach the Eagle’s Nest by special buses and an elevator. You will have two hours to explore the vicinity. Take in the spectacular view from Eagle’s Nest.
The Eagle’s Nest is only accessible from about mid of May until the end of October, you’ll have the great option of the neighbor summit Rossfeld during the winter months. The Sound of Music hiking scene was filmed at the Rossfeld.
Rossfeld is also a great vantage point for panoramic views of the majestic Austrian and Bavarian Alps, as well as the adjacent Eagle’s Nest. If you want a less busy, more local setting than the Eagle’s Nest, you can also choose this option when it is open.
The journey continues from the Bavarian Alps to Fuschl Castle in the picturesque Salzburg Lake District. Capture the Castle with the emerald green Fuschlsee in the background before going on to St. Gilgen and the next photo spot, Wolfgangsee.
Lake Wolfgang and the towns of St. Gilgen and St. Wolfgang are the following highlights. Capture St. Wolfgang from a high view point before proceeding to the Sound of Music Wedding Church in Mondsee.
After an eight-hour exploration of Salzburg and the Kehlsteinhaus, your private trip concludes with a drive back to your Salzburg city hotel.
